For what it's worth

Of the 18 students in my new journalism class last Thursday, only a couple had heard of blogs, nobody had one, none read them and no one knew the origin of the term. Not a scientific sample, obviously, but if anything I would have guessed the sample would be biased in favor of blog knowledge. But that was a pretty typical result for my journalism classes. Makes me wonder, as I speculate here, about how important blogs really are.

Several Times I have posted news or news tips on Kemmicks blog including the news that apparently a member of the City Council is terminally ill but some some reason apparently the daily didnt see it as news because there has never been anything on the subject in the daily.

David: I suspect that blogs are in their infancy, much like television was in the late 40s and early 50s. Most people still depend on gateway publications or television because that's what they've relied on all their lives. I expect we'll see even more sophisticated gateways evolve on the web and that people will find they like to spout their opinions. Some of us, of course, have know that for years and this just makes it easier.

I spent over a year at CNN's chatroom before they closed it, and then started blogging. It's very addictive. I'd start my own blog if I had the time!
