Whew

The Outpost has been put to bed for the week. I turned in final grades for Rocky Mountain College this morning, and I have a week before final grades are due for MSU-Billings. So I'm getting a bit of a breather today. I wasn't sure I would be able to hold my breath for a whole semester, but somehow I managed it.

So what will I do with today's break? Well, I won't waste it blogging!

A practice I wish I had committed myself to much earlier in life: every so often, devote a day or three to doing what's important instead of what's urgent.

The nice thing about "important" is that it's whatever you believe it is. "Urgent" is usually what gets imposed on you by the rest of humanity.

I don't blame you! Despite the ability of instant communications, I sometimes wonder whether even bothering to Blog makes any sense. Yes, you do read the opinions of others. Yes, it does give you insights to other perspectives. BUT! Does it change anything? Does anyone change their attitude, beliefs or opinions because of what appears on the Blogs, or, is it a question of ego that makes us believe that taking the time to write what we think makes any difference, but, exposes others to our brilliant thoughts? Or, is it the electronic and high tech equivalent of spittin in the wind? You tell me!

Why do people blog? It's entertaining. It's kind of like graffiti except it's legal and you don't have to worry about getting paint on your clothes.

When the desendants of Jack Horner dig places like Billings or Phoenix (especially Phoenix) up 500 years from now, they will determine that the decline of Western Civilization will have started with the invention of the cell phone (or possibly the wireless laptop).
