Garver catching up?

My delivery tour of Billings on Thursday seemed to show that Al Garver had cut heavily into the mayoral race sign gap. This week he seemed to have as many, and possibly more, signs up than Tussing, and many of them were in better locations.

I should note that my opinions about sign coverage aren't as useful as they used to be. I used to deliver 140 Outpost stops over about 10 hours, from the far end of Lockwood and the Heights to Shiloh Road. Nobody in Yellowstone County saw more political signs than I did.

My route is much more restricted now -- I don't enter the Heights at all, for instance, or go west of 24th Street West -- so I don't get a complete picture. But that's how it looked to me. Perhaps someone else can offer a more comprehensive view.

This whole race continues to puzzle me. Here we have two intelligent, articulate guys, both well informed about city government and both saying mostly the right things, running for a job that probably requires only a small fraction of the skills they have. So why don't I feel better about these choices? And why do so many people I talk to feel the same way?

well there David, you no longer sound so sure of your mr garver as a viable choice! what happened? I guess you must actually be listening to whats coming out of that man's mouth, and getting as tired of it as the rest of us are.

And I do have one more comment on that topic as long as you are asking. Every single one of the nearly 1,000 signs placed in Billings in support of Ron Tussing, has been at the request of or with permission from the property owner. The opponent cannot say the same. I have heard over and over that those red signs are just "showing up" in peoples yards. This is not a way to make friends and influence people, mr garver. You mentioned, David, that garver seems to be catching up. I will tell you the reason why. Tussing signs have disappeared on many many occasions, many of those missing signs have been replaced with illegal garver signs. Please don't even try to say people have changed their loyalty. This happened at MY house, as well as others who are working on the campaign for Ron. If you have never been involved in a sign campaign before, you may not have a clue how much work is involved doing it properly and with respect. garver may or may not be suggesting his helpers go grab our signs and run, but it certainly shows that he is not discouraging it either.

its a bare minimum thing, you are right, so why isnt al garver abiding by it?

Dave, let me help you out there. The reason that this race has attracted so much attention is NOT that it's a horse race, rather it's a weasel race! You've essentially got two weaselly bastards vying to be mayor of the largest city in Montana! That does NOT say much for the political situation down there in Billings. Most of the rest of us around the state are askin' what gives! How in the world did you let yourselves get taken in by these two bozos, a fundeemental wackjob with an agenda on loan from God, and a city enriched keystone copper/dirty Ronny type character ready to make someone's day?! And then, toss in the likes of ms. focks, and you've got yourself a regular comedy show! Jeez! If for no other reason, the rest of the state is following this election for comic relief! So, thank you, thank you THANK YOU, City of Billings!

Don't you have a dog to catch, Larry?

I can't keep up with Larry's psychosis. He started the race supporting tussing. Then he was supporting garver. Now he hates them both. Medication check time, Larry. We're losing ya, bud.

Well, actually, I would have to hold my nose and vote for Garver. Pohleece turned mayors just kinda make me puke. And to be quite honest, I think that Garver would do less damage than Dirty Ronny. Sides, I rather have a guy with an agenda than a guy with chip! No what I mean????

merryann said...

Matt, I couldn't tell by your words who you were endorsing, but I am glad to read now that you are voting for the good guy.

Who's that, mer, Dirty Ronny?

LK was NEVER a candidate for the top job at the Animal Shelter. Some people grow and are promoted, others do their first year on the job 20 times and yet others never seem to get tenured for some reason...

merryann said...

No clue. That's why I've endorsed Tussing.

wasnt that you who said that?

Name a policeman turned mayor, Larry. Tell us about it.

Anon, are you REALLY that simple?! Look, it's the stereotypical comedic situation used over and over and over again in the entertainment medium. Guy get's pulled over in a podunk town, maybe East Overshoe, Montana. Local copper gives guy a ticket. Guy decides to fight the ticket, so he goes to court. Guy shows up in court and viola! Who's the town mayor? SAME COP WHO GAVE HIM THE TICKET! It's a friggin' JOKE!, as is Dirty Ronny's run for office! Billings has become Podunk, Montana! Billings has become East Overshoe, Montana In other words, there are NOT even enough qualified, motivated people to run for office down there, so they must get incestuous about it! Makes me sick! Should make us ALL sick! Besides the obvious comedy of the situation, the incestuous part is quite serious. Why SHOULD law enforcement suddenly become a political force?? WHOM do you think Dirty Ronny is going to represent?? Why his pohleece buddies, THAT'S who! Whom do you think Garver's going to represent? The people of Billings to the best of his abilities! So, Garver might not be another Schweitzer, but I much prefer a civilian mayor to a professional copper! But hey, you Podunkians can do what you want. We need the laughter! Cause you see, laughter really MAKES OUR DAY!

Yes, all meager minds and thirsty souls of the universe turn their downtrodden eyes toward Great Falls where the fountain of wisdom resides in Larry, the former dog catcher and keeper of all thoughts profound.

Gee, you really got a problem with a guy's occupation, don't you. Just what did you say that you do again? But while you're at it, just what occupation, according to you, entitles one to express an opinion?! Speaking of meager mental capacities, you seem to fit that bill perfectly.

Mark, Tell us more. I haven't seen or heard about it.

Ah yes. Dirty Ronny's gonna make somebody's day! Do I see foxprints on his sleaze? Could be!

merryann said...

The Tussing campaign had nothing to do with that garbage. Mark, I hope you realize you are attacking the integrity of the whole team when you spread this filth.

I just read the Gazoo article on the fliers. And you know, WHERE'S THE BEEF?! In other words, what's Big Al's beef with the fliers? Is he NOT an outta state political operative? He sure SEEMS to be. And yes, he appears to be somewhat KOOKY AS HELL to the average citizen. So, where's the beef? Al has not been forthcoming on all his wackiness. He should. He should let his wackiness speak for itself.

I would caution folks against making libelous comments. You wouldn't want an attorney taking you or the blog host to court for allowing knowingly false, malicious statements recklessly disregarding the truth. Just going to court can be expensive, and some people do have the money, time and inclination to make your miserable lives more miserable.

Merry Ann,

Your attribution is weak. Where did you hear that Garver's signs were being placed, and who told you?

Your vague comment could mean that you are standing in front of your bathroom mirror and repeating your story over and over again to your self.

you'd first have to possess intelligence for one to insult it.

merryann said...

Insult your intelligence? I see you have the market cornered on that.

merryann said...

Jim, I don't feel the need to expound for you and your hostile self. I told you it happened at my house, do you want me to publish names and phone numbers here to satisfy you?

refer to 10:49 p.m post, Mark. You might try medication for that ADD problem. Ritalin or Strattera are fab.

Anonymous said...

No hostility intended Merry Ann. I must confess I skimmed over the example of your own home. No more comments until I've had my first cup of coffee.

You're a good guy, Jim.

Jim, one example of many: At the corner of Garnet and Hilltop in the Heights, there is a duplex. Both residents welcomed Tussing signs during the primary. After the primary, the Tussing signs were removed and Garver signs went up. Since I was the one who visited both residents, I stopped by to see if they had changed their minds. No, they hadn't. However, a council member and a realtor/landlord replaced the signs because the landlord's preference differed from the resident's. Certainly within his right to dictate, but those signs don't reflect the opinions of the people who live there. Moral of the story: if you're politically minded, rent from same, so you can display the sign you choose instead of having one foisted upon you. If you go door-to-door, visit everyone because you never know the story until you visit.
