I was just a kid when Paul Newman started making the "H" movies that made him famous: "The Hustler," "Hud," "Hombre." And I didn't see "Cool Hand Luke" until years later, when it quickly became my favorite all-time movie.
At the time, I had just about figured out why it was that boys found girls to be attractive. But I couldn't figure out how girls could feel the same way about boys. Then Paul Newman came along, and it all started to make sense.

Your dustup with the folks who were running the Outpost's website could be summed up by the famous line from Cool Hand Luke:
"What we have here is...a failure...to communicate."
Personally, I felt that Paul Newman should have won his Oscar for his portrayal of the down-and-out lawyer fighting against a corrupt Catholic bishop in The Verdict. (He finally won for The Color of Money because he carried Tom Cruise in that picture, much like Dustin Hoffman won for carrying Tommy Boy in Rain Man.)
Of course, Paul Newman dead looks much better than most men (myself especially) do alive.
Kirk, He could have won for a number of roles, but he was definitely outstanding in The Verdict.
My favorite movie he did was Slap Shot.
