Studs Terkel, R.I.P.
I have often called Studs Terkel one of the greatest living Americans. No more, alas, no more.

Studs was one of the few folks who stayed in Chicago is his old age (I can't say retirement, since he never did, writing and speaking to the end). Most elderly Chicagoans wind up in Arizona (at least past time; the number of Illinois plates tends to outnumber Arizona plates here this time of year).
Even if he didn't vote early this year, I wouldn't be surprised if he votes for Obama on Tuesday. ;-) (It's interesting that Studs and Jackie Corr passed away within a few months of each other. My guess is that if Studs had lived in Butte and Jackie in Chicago, nothing would be any different.)
