Tussing tussle

Good column today by Ed Kemmick on the Ron Tussing contract dispute. It made me wonder: Why doesn't Tussing just promise that, if elected, he'll give the $160,000 back to the city? He says he doesn't actually have the money, but a newly elected top city official with a long career in law enforcement ought to be able to scrounge it up somewhere.

I know I'd want to vote for a candidate who promised that the first thing he'd do if elected is donate enough of his personal wealth to pay for a police officer for five years. How could Al Garver top that? He'd have to offer to build a fire station!

Giving the money back would be a brilliant move indeed. But there is a very big ego in the way of brilliant political moves.

I really dont care about the money and as far as I can tell he is withing his right to run for office. I am more concerned about a lame duck in Ward 1 pushing what seems to be a personal agenda against the former Chief rather than representing the people who put her in office. I am always amused when politicians start thinking they are bigger than the people they represent.

I cant wait for election night!

Why in the HELL should he give back that money? His brilliant career was ended by a sociopathic city administrator with no morals or ethics or reason. Bauer tried 3 times to buy some credibility, and no one backed him up. Not even the $17k opinion came back as ordered.
Ron Tussing saved the city a ton of money when he backed off and agreed to the resignation. There is no doubt he would have won a many fold larger settlement if it was blood he was after. What was the former chief supposed to do? Bend over and take it? I think not. He deserved every penny he got, and then some, and he will be our next mayor.

you talking about a newly elected mayor of Billings, David? a position that pays $9,000/year? How bout you donate your salary?

Ron was so cool when he told the Breakfast Flakes he'd work for macaroni and cheese and forego the salary ($800 per month) if the council in January continued to bitch and moans as is its wont. That would be two fights Ron could have won but walked away from for the sake of Billings.

Hasn't Al Garver offered NOT to build a fire station by trying to overturn the public safety levy? People living on the West End should be concerned about a guy who wants to take away additional fire protection that's needed right now. Al says it's no big deal because the station would be built sometime down the road (2009). I doubt the people on the West End would say, "fine, I'll schedule my house fire for four years from now."

yeah, let's just keep gouging a few more pounds of flesh from this guy. Yeah, that's the ticket. Ron's got my vote.

Just try funding a cop's position with my salary. You couldn't even hire a crook for that.

Maybe the rich people in Northwest Billings should create a fire protection district...

the mill levy is nothing but a band aid on sprawl.

Wait until you have to cough up for a water treatment plant between billings and Laurel to serve the West End.

Do we really want a revenge-motivated Mayor, who is looking for loopholes in his severance agreement?

He agreed to resign, get a nice payoff, and not work for the City & harrass Tina Volek, who didn't railroad him by choice, but because she was told to do so.

He should keep his word.

Oh misinformed one!

revenge-motivated Mayor--thats too funny,

looking for loopholes in his severance agreement?--you mean that agreement that he checked out before he agreed to sign it, and was assured by an army of attorneys he could not be forced to give up his constitutional rights? even by the mighty little kristoff bauer? that agreement?

He agreed to resign, get a nice payoff,
you call actually coming out with less than a year salary after being harassed for 15 months a nice payoff?
He should keep his word.
Ron Tussing is a man of his word, you can bet on it.
And as for Tina, if she cant think for herself, but just railroads on command, do we want her around? I dont.

Last night's City Council electioneering was yet another example of why we need to clean house and start over. Obviously the work of runing the City isnt being done and hasn't been done by the current City Council.

This City Council needs to be recalled. All those council people who keep beating a dead horse are doing a gross disservice to the citizens of Billings. Even wasting one minute on whether Ron Tussing can run for mayor or not is a travesty. What Shirley McDermott won't say is that at least 2 attorneys have already informed her that Ron Tussing is perfectly within his right to run. Shirley is still carrying the water for Mr. Bauer and she needs to set that bucket down.

I wasn't sure who to vote for before, but I'm voting for Tussing. Anyone that this screwed up council is afraid of gets my vote. It's time to fight City Hall.

All Tussing supporters kindly explain WHY he is running for mayor. The man has been at the public trough most of his life -first Nebraska, now Montana. He has retirement dollars coming from all his law enforcement jobs. Not revenge? Than what? Let him get an honest job in the private sector and enter the REAl world of work.

Why has someone not thought of this before. To solve the problem with Mr Tussing and this signed contract of not working for the city where Mr Bauer and Ms Volek work. She is the only one still working for the city. Just have Ms Volek quit. Let her try and live on minimun wage in this town. My votes with Mr. Tussing.

Yeah, being a cop for 37 years in Nebraska and Montana wouldn't show anyone what the real world is, would it? It's easy to be a policeman and the pay is so great. Yeah, someone who works in public service has no right to run for an office to continue in public service. Right! (slap the forehead!) Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Let us all vote for Ron Tussing. it is our best chance of getting our $160,000 back. Yahoo!

Anonymous said...

Okay! Let's do.

Why hasen't someone asked for the money Bauer has. He is still living in Billings because he can not find a job. Where can you go to work and get a great salary and then just say you are going to quit and be paid for that. Make him give the money back. What a hot-dog, What a cheat. And for that Garver. He was only active 8 years in the Air Force and the rest of his time is in the reserves. Thats only 2 days a month. And with all that time why only an E-7. No big college degree here or he would be an officer. My votes with Tussing for sure.

where do I get a Tussing yard sign?

Anonymous said...

Give me your address and will stop by with that sign.

But Garver IS a "christian conservative"!! Who would you rather have leading the city, a man who talks to god like bush, or a man who kicks ass and takes names?! Easy answer!

Anonymous said...

I heard the church Garver touts in his propaganda and radio ads has told him to quit exploiting it and stop using the church name all over the place. Ouch.

Anonymous said...

Man! Is THAT un-"christian" of 'em! Garver's their baby!

David said...

Point of inquiry: Didn't Moses, for instance, kick ass, take names and also talk to God like Bush? Or maybe talked to a bush like God?

Moses, although an admirable man, is too Old Testament. I would much prefer a Jesus type fellow. You know, a carpenter in the days BEFORE power tools!(ever tried saws that weren't electric?! Imagine doin' that all day long) Jesus was buff, to say the least. Had to be! And Jesus wasn't afraid to KICK SOME SERIOUS ASS when necessary! Think about the moneychangers in the Temple. This is MY Jesus, a guy who didn't hesitate to throw the venal bastards out! And ya see, what with big Al talkin' crap endlessly bout progress, seems to me that he would HELP the moneychangers! Not good. Tussing, on the other hand, if confronted by agressive goofballs, reacts like Jesus did. HE THROWS'EM OUT! It's the only thing goofballs and moneychangers understand! Hope this helps.

"I thought I'd tell you about a site that will let give you places where you can make extra cash! I made over $800 last month. Not bad for not doing much."

Sounds like a job on the City Council...
