CBS in the dumps

CBS reached a low tonight that makes the Bush fake documents story look like Pulitzer quality work. Katie Couric introduced Sean Hannity as guest commentator.

Sean Hannity! Don't we get enough of this blowhard? Three hours a day on the radio, an hour on cable TV, a couple of crappy books -- what insight into the political world could Hannity possibly have that we haven't already heard a hundred times?

None, actually. He used his time to decry the politicization of the war on terror. Incredibly, the only examples he could find of politicians who have tried to exploit the war for political purposes were Democrats. Amazing. It's the same theme he has pounded on his radio show virtually every single day for the last five years. And he still hasn't found a single Republican who has had anything but the highest possible, thoroughly apolitical motives in discussing the war. Edward R. Murrow would be spinning in his grave if he hadn't already burrowed his way to the other side of the earth.

Tuesday night: Arianna Huffington. I can't wait!

Speaking of burrowing, Couric is in third place and going down.

Heaven Forbid! A conservative was allowed to comment on CBS? We can't be allowing diversity of opinion unless they are Democrats, right?

I'd never listened to Hannity and now that he's been on CBS, I don't have to wonder what kind of an idiot he is. Now I know and I don't have to try to find him on the radio. But other people on the free speech segment of the CBS news also seem to avoid the use of facts. One father of a Columbine victim was on the air the other day spouting the same old, worn out views of what causes school violence: lack of religion, lack of family involvement, etc. Where do Hannity and others, including Rush Limbaugh, come up with the "facts" which are just slogans without any basis in fact?

Rocky: I don't think David's complaint was that CBS has hired a nominally Republican commentator. It's that CBS hired a commentator with absolutely nothing to say.

David, have you listened to Hannity's radio show every day for the past 5 years? Must be rather tough on you - feeling the way you do about him! I've only heard him a few times and then only for 10 or 15 minutes each time, so I have to take your word for it that he says the same thing every day.

Nothing to say, huh? He gets millions of listeners every week. They apparently don't agree that he has nothing to say. You are free to disagree all you like. I do find it interesting that the normal response is to attempt to discredit the speaker instead of debating the points he makes. I think CBS should be lauded for trying to air views from all sides.

And Chuck-
You don't think stronger family involvement would help reduce school violence? Maybe if parents were involved, they'd notice little Johnny making pipe bombs out in the garage or packing weapons to school. No, I don't have any "facts" to back that up. It isn't a "slogan" though. It's common sense.

YO! Rocky. Just HOW many "families" are LEFT out there, pal?! Come ON, Rocko. You need to get out more. Ever since the Rethugs outsourced jobs and destroyed the economy, there really aren't many familes left! So, you whole shpeel about family values is nonsense. But so is EVERY argument you come up with. Ozzie and now Harriet died a looooooong time ago, Rocko.

Rocky: Millions of porn sites get billions of visitors. What exactly do numbers mean?

My kids go from 3rd grade, up to the second year of college, and my one observation is that the kids who do well have one thing in common, parents who take an interest in their education.

I pick up hannity once in a while, on 1450AM in Great Falls when I'm up there. He's OK.

Rocky, you caught me in a mistake. Parental involvement is important although it is not always a defining element in things. But, I complain about those who think the church and the school and the evolutionists and all that are the causes of our problems. Our problems have more to do with the number of people in the world and with the blatant hypocrisy in our world, and with the changing of our society that is going in a new direction that very few of us will be able to predict. (see 20 years from now).

I don't see similar numbers for "Air Amerika" Ed. Those folks recently declared bankruptcy. Many conservative talk shows (I've been listening to Beck lately) are flourishing. Just because you disagree with the man, you have to put up a comparison to porn sites? That was part of my earlier post- You dislike the message, so you attempt to smear the messenger. I say we debate the message and forget personal attacks.
And LK (Larry)- Your view of the economy is off base. Unemployment is historically low while the stock market is at record highs. I know you'd like everyone to believe it's bad because you say it is, but truth shows otherwise.
And Tony- All your kids need to do is read some of your posts and they'll see from their daddy that it's okay to hate. Threatened anyone in Oregon (or wherever the hell you moved to) yet?

Anonymous911,
I normally listen to Hannity from 2-4 p.m. Thursdays while I'm delivering papers. I listen to him on scattered occasions at other times when I am in the car and occasionally, on masochistic days, when I am in the office.

Obviously, I might be missing something. But considering how many times he rehashes the same tired themes every time I do listen, I can't be missing much.
