One for Tester

In tonight's debate, Jon Tester nailed Conrad Burns on Iraq. Burns' implication that a secret plan exists that will tell us when we have won the war is the most ludicrous thing I've heard in any of the debates. Tester responded with real eloquence and passion, and may have salted the election away right there.

No surprises in the first debate. I like both candidates and thought they both acquitted themselves well. Denny Rehberg came across as a tad more polished and knowledgeable, but Monica Lindeen may have won just for beating expectations. I can't see that the debate will put any dent into Rehberg's lead.

Dave, I like to think of Connie Burns as that little fellow on Fantasy Island that used to yell, "Dee plan, dee plan"! For you see, I thoght that Connie was going to just keep on rambling out the door! Out of reality! Reminded me of that movie, I can't remember the name any longer, where a senator in a similar situation simply started speaking in French until he was finally led away! Connie has lost it. Who KNOWS why. Perhaps he really is senile, or has mad cow or something. But he is to be pitied. Pitied and replaced. The most important thing now is to get this sick person some helpl and OUT of the most powerful deliberative body in the world. I mean, we already have a presidunce who is more than likely insane! Hell, it's not time for Montana values in Washington. It's time for some people who AREN'T friggin' nuts! And I loved the way that Connie threatened Tester. What's THAT all about? Is Connie gonna send his mafia pals to make Jon an offer he can't refuse? After all, wasn't Abramoff involved in that murder of the Sun cruise line owner! It's a very, very sad but hopeful time in Montana. We need to get rid of this bum and put Tester in. That will be a great start! Connie's goose is cooked. How could ANYONE (other than coobs) vote for this idiot now?!

I recall very well Nixon's secret plan for Vietnam. Didn't have one, of course. There is no secret plan here either. Just keep on going, but in the end there is only one result. Civil war which will result in 3 different countries. Geez, what an absolute mess!!!

Actually, neither Burns nor Baby Bush have recognized it yet, but the war is over. What we're doing now is a futile attempt at nation building.

Mark,
Don't mistake military strategy for war aims. If our goal is to stay the course until we win, then I would like to know what counts as a win. When Baghdad is as safe as, say, Chicago? When the war has been paid for with Iraqi oil? When rival factions aren't openly beheading one another?

Military strategy in Iraq is not much of a mystery. I think I have a pretty good idea of what the military is trying to do. But I'll be damned if I know what the administration is trying to do.

TOTALLY unrelated comment, but- I'm surprised that you still have a link up to DBLB. I'm thinking that site is long gone.

What is a win? That is the question every American wants to know but Bush Inc. will not tell us. It makes me think if they let us know what the real goal is most Americans wouldn't support it and that's why it's a "secret".
