Obits for free

The New Mexico House wants newspapers to print free obituaries. Those already are available in The Outpost, of course, and in The Billings Gazette for decedents who are willing to settle for a "pine box," with no usable information that would help identify how that person fit into the community.

I am amazed at the detail of obituaries here. In NYC papers, there is simply a listing for the funeral homes, with times of services and maybe a mention of the spouse & children. Unless you were famous - then perhaps you get what is paid for. The infamous however, usually have very detailed write ups for free.

I think that it's sad when I read some of those pricey obits for the very young that cover a quarter of the page. Especially when compared to the little blurbs for folks who lived well into their nineties...

I should add - I think that they should be free, too... Kudos to the Outpost!
