From the Onion archives: Max Baucus fesses up.

An amazingly unfunny piece, coming from a humor organization. Every politician (and almost every human being) has personal quirks you can play for laughs, and these guys missed those of Max, while inventing some others.

Good grief, that was funny! It could have been targeted at any Senator, of course, but using one of ours...good for the Onion to remember MT!!

By the way -- is "dave rye" the same guy that I hear on the Northern News Network every morning on the way to work?

I donn't think it's very funny either. Max is a good guy.

You're right! It's not funny. Besides that, it's not even true. We've got a bona fide shiitty senator running for re-election from Montana again this year so he can again put his vote in the service of Missouri.

They obviously grabbed a name out of the senate hat, but they didn't miss by very much.

Yes, Max is a decent fellow, but as I pointed out, this could have been applied to just about ANY politician...I suspect the writer just selected one at random. Not a reflection on Max -- just a humorous reflection on politics, I suspect.

David (not publisher/blogger Crisp but the #2 guy in this string), thanks for asking. I'm the guy you USED to hear on the Northern News Network I happily retired April 15th and am now helping to hasten the coming Social Security crisis. I will occasionally fill in for my successor, Brian Bennett, or for David Berg on his talk show, when they need sick leave or vacation time.

They could've just used the piece about Max's "better half's" little escapade at a Virginia nursery (the plant variety, not a day care -- although she sometimes acts as if she needs to be in the latter) a couple of years back word for word and folks would've thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever done -- and it would've been absolutely true! (For those who mave have forgotten, the little lady went ballistic and did some damage to the plant purveyor's inventory. Charges were filed, Mrs. B was booked by the local constabulary, but said charges were later dropped.) Seems the lady believes the old saying should be, "Whiskey's for drinkin', but mulch is for fightin'."

I found the piece funny, and I'm a registered Democrat. (We Democrats here in Mesa, Arizona meet once a year -- at a mini-booth at Denny's.) For Mr. Rye -- a card-carrying member of the GOP -- to find a mocking story about a Democrat to not be funny confirms my theory that Republican don't carry a gene providing for a sense of humor. (At least that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.)
